For as long as I can recall my passion for the wilderness, outdoor sports and travel has been diverse and a huge part of my life. Backpacking through Europe during my 10 years in Girl Guides of Canada, 5 years of Provincial/National Snowboard Cross Racing, amateur x-country mountain bike racing, and cross-country running are what has fuelled this passion throughout my life.
This April I will be graduating from the Outdoor Adventure Program at Algonquin College in the Ottawa Valley. It is a 2 year professional guide training diploma program. Over the past two years I have gained real life experience in the adventure field with our many expeditions, industry certification training and testing days. In class we focused on business management, leadership, risk management and communication. The mix of outdoor and in class studies have instilled a professional guide state of mind in me.
Last summer I completed my mandatory summer work term in Prince Edward Island as a sea kayak guide at Outside Expeditions in North Rustico. Over my ten weeks I was a full time TL with 65 trips logged, I was also the social media coordinator and part-time office manager. My job consisted of communicating with clients over the phone, by email for trip booking and inquiries and in the field as an interpretive guide; I had the opportunity to guide a handful of French only tours which was an exciting experience for me! I also helped maintain a fleet of 15+ sea kayaks, 30+ bikes and all the equipment that goes along with them. It was my first guide position of that caliber and I enjoyed the challenge, diversity in work and new skills I learnt along the way.
This summer I would love to show you the tools I have acquired in school, work and throughout my many leadership experiences. I am confident in my outdoor knowledge of the Ottawa Valley, communication skills and my guiding abilities. I am an outgoing young lady, who never shy away from a challenge.
I am looking forward to discuss what I can bring to this position more fully with you in an interview. For more information about my guiding and personal endeavours feel free to check out my website: kaitclow.weebly.com
You can easily reach me preferably by email: [email protected] since this is my most reliable source of communication while away at school.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely,
Kait Clow
